Beta Gamma Sigma Inducts 100 McDonough Students

Washington D.C. -- Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Scholastic Honor Society for business and administration, recently inducted 100 Georgetown students into its ranks. This is the 24th class at Georgetown inducted into the organization.

Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes exemplary academic achievement, inducting undergraduate business students in the top 7 percent of the junior class, the top 10 percent of the senior class, and the top 20 percent of the MBA class (including Evening and Executive MBA classes). It is the only academic achievement noted on the student's transcript.

Ambassador Franklin L. Lavin, Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade, was this year's inducting officer. Ambassador Lavin spoke to students about the ongoing changes in international trade and the debate between protectionism and free trade. "We are in the middle of a revolution," he said. "Can you join the group that leads and changes the system? The future is yours should you seek to grasp it."

Student Courtney Rodeheaver, a board member of the Susum Corda Literacy Group, teaching assistant in accounting and a tutor at the Academic Resource Center, was presented the local chapter award for her significant contribution to the community in the area of service.

Professor Ilkka A. Ronkainen, Georgetown chapter president, spoke of the advantages of membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. "BGS members have the opportunity to network with their colleagues worldwide," he said. "At Georgetown they participate in mentoring activities such as creating business projects for the undergraduate students."
